HOMEWORK: Your child will usually have READING homework Monday through Friday. Math homework will usually be every day except Wednesday.

HOMEWORK FOLDERS: Everyday, except Friday, your child will be bringing home their green homework folder. This folder is what your child will use to bring home any important notes and homework assignments. Please use this folder to send back homework and any notes for me or the office. Please help your child go through this folder every night and take out papers that need to stay at home.

FRIDAY FOLDER: This folder is yellow and will be sent home with the papers they have completed for the week.  Please empty the folder and have your child return it on Monday.  This will take the place of their green homework folder on Friday.

ASSIGNMENT BOOKS:  This will come home daily with their reading assignment in it. Their memory and spelling words will also be in this book. I also may write a quick note to you in it.  Please feel free to correspond to me also. On the far right side of the assignment book, there is a place for your child’s reading buddy to sign their name. (This could be any adult or special person who heard your child read)  This lets me know that you child has read to someone that evening.          

                                                
MYSTERY READERS!  I would like to invite any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives, or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students LOVE having their family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class. Mystery readers will visit us on Fridays at 12:30 pm each week. Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a teacher-chosen book from our classroom library. Remember you are a mystery to the class, so try not to tell your child when you will be coming! Please see me or drop me a “secret” note if you have any further questions. I put out a signup sheet at Open House, but there are still several dates available. If you are interested please give me a call or drop me an e-mail to set up a date.

ALLERGIES: Please let me know as soon as possible if your child has any allergies or other medical condition that I should be aware of.

BIRTHDAYS: Feel free to send in a birthday snack on or near your child’s birthday. Please contact me either by phone or a note in your child’s green homework folder to set up a date. If your child has a summer birthday, check with me and we can set up a day in May or June to celebrate it.  

COATS, SWEATERS & OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS: Please write your child’s name on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that you send to school. 

VOLUNTEERS: Please don’t be shy when it comes to helping out in our classroom!!! We would love to have your help. We do centers Monday-Friday while I am doing Guided Reading groups. I love to have parents come in and help during this time. It usually is for about an hour in the morning.  This would be with one or two students. It doesn’t have to be every week; it could just be once in a while. Just let me know when you are available and we can set something up.

Math Club:   Is held the second Tuesday of the month for the 1st and 2nd graders.  It is a time for practicing math games; work on math strategies, and of course….. an organic snack.  There will be a $5.00 charge each month to cover the snack and any left over money goes toward math games and other items to enhance learning in our classroom.

Book Club Ordering: You and your child will have the opportunity to order books from the book clubs every month. I will send home the order forms, usually in the first week of the month. These book order forms are from Scholastic. Scholastic offers many wonderful books at a discounted price. When you order books from these book clubs you are also helping to stock our classroom library. Every book that you purchase earns bonus points for the classroom. These bonus points can be used to purchase books for our classroom library. If you would like to order books you can just send back the order form with a check (made payable to Scholastic) by the due date. You can also order on-line.
